I'm leaving for Hong Kong today and I inquired on how to activate international roaming for my Sun Cellular by calling 200 on my mobile phone.
An hour before your flight, text ROAM ON and send to 222.
You will receive a confirmation message if your roaming is activated.
For Prepaid subscribers, there are only 5 countries, as of this writing, which provides roaming for Sun Prepaid Subscribers. This includes Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, and China.
I was planning to go to Dubai after Hong Kong but only postpaid subscriptions can be activated in Dubai for a limited number of days (15 days to be exact) then you have to activate your roaming again. Sad! :-(
For Roaming Prepaid accounts P25.00/text (up to 160 characters) is charged if you reply to a local text from the Philippines.
For receiving calls, you are charged P60.00/minute and P87.50 for outgoing calls.
You have to use the country codes during roaming. +63 is the country code for the Philippines.
They have a cheaper alternative when texting your relatives here in the Philippines when you are abroad.
Dial *111# on your Sun Cellular Phone and you will receive a menu. Reminder: you have to input the cel numbers manually so you need to write it down before texting. Only P5.00/text is charged.
When you get back home, be sure to deactivate your international roaming by texting ROAM OFF to 222. Activation and deactivation of international roaming is free of charge.
